What do Carbs, Fats and Proteins do?

Macro Nutrients

These are the proteins, carbohydrates and fats that make up the human diet and within each macro nutrient are micro-nutrients which feed the body and the cells on a microscopic basis.

Each macro nutrient feeds the body in different ways providing different building blocks to the body.

Carbohydrates – Provide energy for the brain, body and the nervous system. Carbs are stored in muscles and liver as glycogen and helps maintain blood sugar levels.

Proteins – Provide the amino acids for muscle growth and have many other functions such as formation of skin and hair, builds connective tissue, helps with blood clotting, works with glucose to regulate blood sugar levels.

Fats – Provides energy, stored in the body reserve energy source, provides insulation, helps transport vitamins and is used in cell constriction.

Keep your macro-nutrients close to these percentages:-

Carbs – 40% of daily intake

Proteins – 30% of daily intake

Fats – 30% of daily intake

Over eating any of these will cause an increase in body fat, that’s why tracking your calories is the fundamental rock to start with when looking to lose body fat and looking toned.
